Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Religious broadcasting has long been recognized as a powerful tool for fostering social harmony, particularly in diverse societies like Nigeria, where multiple ethnic, religious, and cultural groups coexist. In Jalingo Local Government Area, Taraba State, religious broadcasts on both radio and television have been integral in promoting peace and understanding among the various communities. These broadcasts, often delivered by religious leaders and scholars, aim to address issues such as religious intolerance, interfaith dialogue, and the importance of peaceful coexistence. Religious programming plays a critical role in shaping public perceptions, encouraging tolerance, and promoting mutual respect among different religious groups in the region (Ahmed & Zubairu, 2023; Musa & Usman, 2024). This study explores the effectiveness of religious broadcasting in promoting social harmony in Jalingo, particularly how it has influenced interfaith relations and peacebuilding efforts.
